DAY 18

Cassie and her pups have received lots of visitors over the past few days. It is so rewarding for Chris and I to see how excited everyone is.

Cassie, bless her, is doing a sterling job of feeding her babies, they are such chubby little things. She on the other hand is beginning to look tatty, her coat is falling out, a normal response caused by the change in her hormone levels. She is eating really well, is fed every 4 hours right through the night. Chris and I take it in turns to do the night shift. She loves going out with the rest of our family, woofing at people and horses using the footpath and the weather has been kind so everything is drying up.

The puppies have been wormed for the first time. They were really good but the first time is always the easiest as they have no idea what is about to happen. All of them are gaining weight ,I am so chuft with the litter, so even and strong. They have also had the nails clipped again. Cassie will soon have to contend with teeth as well as nails, poor poppit. At the weekend I hope to start them lapping simply to ease Cassie’s workload so I will keep you posted. Enjoy the video footage and photos.

Day 11

The pups are getting so much stronger, they are actually mobile, very wobbly, but mobile non the less . They are also becoming quite vocal ,lovely little yips. They will soon be exploring their new world so some plastic has gone down today over our carpet in preparation for their adventures. They are now beginning to open their eyes ,their vision will be very poor for a few days but progress happens so quickly .It is truly wonderful watching them develop. Chris and I clipped their toe nails today, they get very sharp and poor Cassie gets terribly scratched when they kneed her tummy to encourage milk flow. This handling is an important part of growing up for a Crumpsbrook pup, vital for a biddable adult that accepts human control. My adults think nothing of having their nails cut because it is done regularly.

Do enjoy the video footage.

The family are now accepting visitors they have a full social calendar this weekend ,but if you have a puppy booked do ring me to arrange a visit.

Day 2

cassiepups13-day2-2

Cassie is recovering well from her exertions, she is a fantastic mother and is so proud of her babies.

They are all feeding well and have had a weigh in today. Every one has gained weight and all is going to plan so far. Chris and I take it in turns to get up in the night to feed Cassie, I like to feed her regular small meals of her special whelping bitch Burns, mixed with fresh minced chicken lamb or beef to keep her energy levels up so she continues to feed all the pups herself. She has an evaporated milk and water mix which she loves ,this is a really good high calorie drink. Its so important she drinks plenty of fluids to enable her to keep producing milk. Our hens are producing plenty of eggs so Cassie is also enjoying free range scrambled egg.

The photo on the right is the whole litter all 11 munchkins  keeping warm on their heated pad during bedding change over

Expectant Mum

cassieinpup

I had my suspicions before the snow came that Ebby’s tummy was not growing. On Thursday we decided to take her to the vets. After a scan and x-ray she was confirmed not in pup. We are so disappointed but will try her once more next season. She is now on a strict diet after enjoying 4 meals a day and special privileges but much to her delight her exercise regime is back to normal. She enjoyed a trip to Mortimer Forest in the snow with Jas and Jas’s brother Sully.

Cassie as you can see is positively blooming. Poor poppet is getting more uncomfortable as the days go by. She has 7 days to go. I don’t supposecassieinpup2 for one minute she will go full term.

Litter Plans

cassieinpup2Cassie as you can see is positively blooming. Poor poppet is getting more uncomfortable as the days go by. She is due on the 8th April but I don’t suppose for one minute she will go full term.

For Cassie’s 2nd litter I decided to repeat her last mating with Harry.  I have been so thrilled with the last litter, their adaptability, characters and quality is so good and Harry is not getting any younger, he is 12 later this year.

Tanzenbach Water Boatman (Harry) – Hip score 3/5, HUU Clear, HC Clear 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011.

Harry full-filled my criteria in 2011 and if I am honest I still feel he is the perfect dog to mate with Cassie.. He is still so sound which bodes well for the long term health of their progeny. He has a fantastic character, wonderful conformation and excellent heath test results. He is a stunning boy and his show record speaks for itself – 14 Challenge Certificates, 9 Best Of Breeds and 15 Reserve Challenge Certificates.  Harry lives with his mum Helen in Kent and is absolutely adored.

Crufts Success

Crufts 2013 will go down as one of the best days of my life. Jas or Crumpsbrook Jasmine to give her her proper name was amazing. Her first time at Crufts and she behaved impeccably. It is a long and exhausting day by the end of which she was shattered, bless her, but she shone in the ring when it mattered. As regular readers of my blog will know she has grown rather erratically which meant her show results have been mixed, but what a time to get it right.

I really did not expect anything from the day apart from the usual fun of going to Crufts, how wrong was I ! Jas was awarded first in her puppy bitch class. I have never been as nervous as I was this day. Perhaps it was because so many existing  and future Crumpsbrook Munster owners were there routing for us. This made the occasion unbelievably special, to be able to share it with you all was such a highlight.

After winning her bitch puppy class she then had to pull out the stops again to compete against the winner of the male puppy class. This class was right at the end of the day. She was able to relax and sleep, which is unbelievable in that atmosphere, and my friend Marcelle had brushed her to go in her first class so we kept the winning formula. Pete, pictured having a Munster hug off Jas woke her up then Marce titivated her coat and in we went.

She loved the moment and showed her socks off , what a star. Mrs Sommerfield, the judge, decided Jas was the Best Puppy in Breed. WOW.

A special thank-you must go to Carol Saunders without whose Tanzenbach blood lines Jas would not be so special.

Oscar, Crumpsbrook Robinia (pictured), Jas’s uncle, had a very pleasing second place in a very competitive Limit class. Mandy my partner in Crumpsbrook showed him for the first time at Crufts while Holly his usual handler took charge of photography. Mandy’s other Munster Esther, Raycris Quite Unique at Crumpsbrook, also did well for such a young lady gaining second place in her huge Limit  class.
What a day, for Crumpsbrook Munsterlanders, unbelievable .
Thank you to all for your kind words of congratulations they really are appreciated.

GO  CRUMPSBROOK !

Great News

Just got back from the vets ,Cassie scanned in pup ,hurrah ! saw 3/4 just like last time and there were 11 so who knows . The only down side is she will not be going to Crufts now on Saturday , with Jas. Still she will have many more years ahead of her

I have been fairly confident for a few days now about Ebby also being in pup ,her tummy is really growing. I waited until today just in case I had my doughts and I could have had her scanned too . But it really wasn’t necessary, she is positively blooming!

Chris and I are chuft ,I do get puppy withdrawal symptoms .I have several puppies already booked for both litters, anyone interested do get in touch.

I will let everyone know how Saturday goes ,wish us luck.

So far so good

I am pleased to report both Cassie and Ebby had positive liaisons with their respective partners. Cassie surprised me by coming into season earlier than expected but that’s dogs for you . Chris and I made the decision to go with both as there is no guarantees either will have pups. Both litters are due at the beginning of April. Fingers crossed both pregnancies will be trouble free. Both girls will have scans the last week in March, so watch this space. Bookings for both litters are very pleasing with some lovely people declaring interest. Do contact me if you wish to chat about either litter.

Jas has had her DNA. test result for HUU. which is clear. She had her xray results for her hips and elbows which are 2,3 hips 0 elbows so I am delighted .

Crufts is coming up on the horizon only a few weeks, Jas is going but Cassie will stay at home ,the risks are too great with so many dogs in one place .

Its raining here again and I am pleased to report no floods !!

Winter Wonderland !

Well the girls got their wish granted for snow to play in. Chris took me to Manchester Champ Show at Stafford on Sunday. We got there fine the main roads were good , the homeward journey was another matter it had snowed all day here and Betty my car only just made it home. Still it was a good day Jas won her first junior class under a Munsterlander specialist judge, against some good opposition. Cassie is very hormonal at the moment, she is not eating terribly well ,normal for her, she often does this when her season is due and is very apathetic so she was not interested in showing herself off .Something she does very well normally. Next outing weather permitting is the club show.

We had a good journey to meet John in Carmarthen, thankfully the week before the weather degenerated. I am in love, what a handsome boy and I feel the pups will be divine. Take a look at Shepherd Puppy Plans 2013 for pictures of John. Ebby came into season and will be due to visit John for her romantic liason in a few days. I am working on Chris to allow me to keep a long coat bitch puppy, fingers crossed.

Congratulations must go to Matt, Kate and Dougie. They have done a magnificent job of making Dougie ,their Munster, up to a full champion. In other words he is one of a few Munsters that is a show ring champion and a working gundog champion. What an incredible achievment.

Jas has had her hips and elbows xrayed and I am awaiting her scores .She has also had her DNA. test for HUU. and much to my delight she is clear.Fingers crossed for low scores for her hips and elbows.

Enjoy the snow with your dogs, while it lasts .

Cassie and Harry’s puppies are one year old today. Thanks to Ben and his folks for Jas’s card. Here she is, posing with it.

It is so rewarding for me to know how loved the litter are and what special people they are becoming.

All the girls are hoping for some snow to play in , lets hope it’s not too much !

Horrid Summer

What a Summer , we have had a horrid time the house has been flooded twice. After the first time we had major referb to do, new skirting boards decorate and new carpets on the ground floor. We had worked really hard to finish had new carpets fitted then 2 weeks later it happened again! Chris and I were devastated we have lived at Catherton for  24 years and never had a problem. Jas continues to grow she is a joy as are all her litter mates  We have had numerous photos sent , thank you all so much , and as soon as Chris has finished digging our moat ,to prevent further flooding they will be put on the website for you all to see . To be honest the website has been bottom of our priorities lately but that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy seeing the pictures so keep them coming . Jas has been to a few shows initially not doing as well as I had hoped but she did go through an ugly duckling stage, so bum high it was ridiculous. Her front end is catching up now, so her topline is improving and so have her placings. So much so that she has qualified for Crufts 2013 so she will go with her mum who has also qualified. Crumpsbrook will be well represented there next year something I would have only dreamt of.Cassies brother Oscar will also be there with Holly and her mum Mandy.Hope to have time to write my blog a little more frequently weather permitting !

The other important news is that my training and behaviour part of Crumpsbrook is being seperated and will be called Mannerly Mutts. I am now a member of The Guild of Dog Trainers and continue to study for my degree . I adore the behaviour side of things trying to help families improve their relationship with their dogs is such rewarding work .My classes are as popular as ever I continually have a puppy wait list and currently do 6 classes a week. Poor Chris is trying to build that website as well ,but do keep an eye on it ,I hope to put some useful articles on there that I have written for my degree, concerning dog behaviour.

Trip to the seaside

Chris and I had a wonderful trip to Harlech with our girls. Carol and Otto, Cassie’s brother, came to. The 4 dogs had a tremendous time chasing bunnies in the sand dunes and seagulls on the beach. The weather was perfect and not a soul about, heaven!
